These large numbers of permanent residents and migratory birds offer you a unique experience of avian diversity.
Each season offers a separate glimpse of the region’s birdlife, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. In spring and autumn, you will see many species of waterfowl, including mallards, common pochhard, northern pintail, and 17 other ducks and goose species.
In summer, as you search the fertile valley orchards, discover the beautiful golden orioles, western crowned warblers, northern cardinals, green-backed tits, Himalayan woodpeckers, and many diverse bird species.
Not only that, the high-altitude meadows and pastures are home to a variety of species. Witness the Karakoram Raptors including the Himalayan Golden eagles, falcon, lammergeier, and bearded vultures soaring above the Karakoram peaks. Apart from these predators, observe the Himalayan snow-cock and the national bird of Pakistan, the chukar partridge, on the lower hillside of each village.

Itinerary - Bird Watching Tour
Explore the detailed itinerary of the tour. Each day is designed to offer a unique experience in Hunza Valley. Visit beautiful landscapes, experience scenic trekking trails, and immerse yourself in local culture of the region.
Day 01: Arrival in Hunza Valley
Your bird watching quest begins as you arrive in Hunza Valley. Our team will receive you at the airport and transfer you to your local guest house. The rest of the day is free to acclimatize yourself. As the night falls, you can enjoy a tranquil stroll under the moonlit sky.
Day 02: Full Day of Bird Watching
After breakfast, our team will pick you up from your Gulmit lodging. You will hike the Ondra Poyga Staircase where you can explore the national bird of Pakistan, known as the Chukar Partridge. From the surrounding high mountains, these birds migrate to the lower grounds from September and return to the mountains as the spring arrives.
Hike further to the Jandukum area of Gulmit, where the partridges are seen in much larger numbers. You will also spot the elegant Magpie, whose black, white, and greenish feathers make it a delight to watch.
The voyage will continue to Attabad Lake, where you will get a chance to witness more than 17 species of ducks and geese combined. At Attabad Lake, these migratory waterfowl are seen in large numbers from September till the end of March. The striking blend of red, blue, green, yellow, white, and black feathers against the turquoise blue water of the lake makes it a truly captivating sight. Watch species such as mallards, common pochard, northern pintail, and 17 others. Later in the day, return to your local guesthouse for the overnight stay.
Day 03 Excursion - Bird Watching Tour
The quest begins following a hearty breakfast, fueling up for the day. Observe thousands of waterfowls at Borith Lake. Watch the lake dotted with colorful ducks, geese, and sandhill cranes.
At Khunjerab National Park, you will come across several Karakoram Species such as the Himalayan snow-cock, the Karakoram raptors including golden eagles flying high above the jagged peaks, and the bearded vulture searching for animal carcasses. Watch the rock pigeon, partridges, and red-billed chough. Later in the day, drive back to your guesthouse for the overnight stay.
Day 04 Excursion - Birding Tour
After observing the mountain bird species and waterfowl, discover the lowland avian diversity. The skilled guides will take you to apricot, peach, and mulberry orchards where you will witness beautiful golden orioles, western crowned warblers, northern cardinals, green-backed tits, Himalayan woodpeckers, blue whistling-trush, doves, and many other species. Each evening you will return to your local guesthouse with a handful of birdwatching experience.
Day 05: Last day of the Bird Watching Tour
As the day unfolds, you will be transferred to Gilgit Airport, from where you will board the flight to Islamabad. The Bird Watching Tour will come to an end as you arrive in Islamabad. The remainder of the day is free to explore the capital of Pakistan.
