Itinerary - Hunza Wildlife Tour
The day-to-day itinerary of the Hunza Wildlife Tour highlights everything you will experience during the search for these magnificent animals.
Day 01: Fly to Gilgit
When you arrive at the Gilgit Airport, you will be greeted and picked up by our team. Begin your fabulous journey towards Hunza Valley. Check in at your hotel and take some time to rest. Visit the famed Altit and Baltit Forts, then explore the Karimabad Bazaar for local treasures and souvenirs.
Journey ahead to Gulmit and experience the evening at Ondra Poyga. Position your scope or binoculars and search the mountains for Himalayan Ibexes. Walk further up the hill and observe partridges, which are found in great numbers near the Ondra Poyga stairs. Conclude the first day of the Hunza Wildlife Tour and return to your hotel. Enjoy the overnight stay at Gulmit village.
Day 02: Hike to Ghulkin and Observe Himalayan Ibexes.
Following the Kamaris Road, drive to Kamaris. Hike to Ghulkin, leaving your vehicle behind. Observe and capture the freely roaming Himalayan ibexes in the Wuch Jingal area of Ghulkin. Search high up in the mountains; who knows, you may spot a snow leopard. Reach Borith Lake and observe the colorful varieties of ducks that migrate from as far as Siberia to reach this lake.
Witness herds of ibexes while hiking to Wuch Borith. Take pictures of partridges and Himalayan snow cock at Wuch Borith. Observe many other groups of ibexes as you travel towards Passu village. Retire to your guest house for the night stay at Passu.
Day 03: Full Day Snow Leopard Sighting.
On this day of the Hunza Wildlife Tour, you will go on your first snow leopard sighting trip. Our expert and professional team will guide you to prime spotting locations where you will track and search for indications of the presence of a snow leopard. Position your binoculars and search the slopes of Khyber.
Look for scavengers such as the Karakoram vultures circling the sky, a clear indication of the snow leopard in the vicinity. These scavengers circle the sky, waiting for the snow leopard to leave its hunt so they can feed on the carcass. Watch herds of ibexes roaming freely in their natural habitat. Spend the entire day at Khyber, the first village that contributed largely to the preservation of these rare big cats and animals by implementing controlled hunting and conservation systems. As the day comes to an end, return to your guest house in Khyber village.
Day 04: Second day of Snow Leopard Spotting Tracking.
On this day of the Hunza Wildlife Tour, you will spend the entire day scouting and scanning for the elusive big cat. Following the meandering trails, our professional team will guide you to the natural habitat of these rare species.
The search for these animals will lead you to the Khunjerab National Park, where the odds of spotting a snow leopard are high. As the evening approaches, return to your guest house while our team designs the journey for the next day.
Day 05: Snow Leopard and Himalayan Ibex Spotting Third Day.
Scan the slopes of Khyber village on the third consecutive day. You will also get a chance to meet the SKIDO team - the Khyber organization whose tireless efforts made the conservation program successful. Interact with the local community listening to their reflections on how they manage to co-exist peacefully with such wild animals. As the evening approaches, you will return to your local guesthouse, sharing the moments you have captured.
Day 06: Depart from Gilgit.
After the drive from Hunza to Gilgit, you will fly back to Islamabad. You will be picked up and transferred to your hotel. You can enjoy the rest of the day in leisure, memorizing the elusive big cat you just witnessed. The Hunza Wildlife Tour will conclude as you leave Pakistan.
